What is it you need help with right now?
Here are just some of the areas I can help you with. However, my experience is broad, so please don’t hesitate to contact me if your particular concern isn’t listed below.
There are many reasons why you may feel that your diet needs a kick-start; perhaps a recent health scare or you’re hoping to start a family. Focussing on our health is always a good decision.
Could your gut simply do with some tender loving care. Perhaps you’ve been too busy, stressed or unwell to focus on your diet and lifestyle and it’s time to give your gut the attention it deserves. Your whole body will thank you.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and not sure where to start? A systematic approach is the only way to truly identify and eliminate the triggers of your discomfort, whether they be diet or lifestyle. Equally importantly, let’s ensure that you’re not excluding foods unnecessarily. That would be a crime!
Recently diagnosed and could do with some basic education and advice? Or are you simply struggling to maintain your weight or bored with your gluten-free diet?
Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver
If you’ve been told that you have a fatty liver then you’re most certainly not alone. In much of Europe and the USA, roughly 1 in 4 of us has a fatty liver. In itself, a fatty liver may pose no problems.
The important thing is to avoid it progressing and developing into potentially dangerous conditions and this is what we can work on together.
Stuck in the dieting cycle?
How many hours, days, months, years of your life have you spent thinking ‘I should lose weight’ and trying the next new regime. It’s exhausting isn’t it? Have you got better things to do with your time and would you like to get your life back and eat food for the pure joy of it? Let’s chat.
If you already have a diabetes team which includes a dietitian looking after you, then great. If not, I can help you understand what is happening in your body and what this means with regard to dietary and lifestyle changes. However, if you have been prescribed insulin or an oral medication such as gliclazide then there is a risk of low blood glucose levels. For this reason, I would need to liaise closely with your medication prescribers to ensure your safety.
Type 1 Diabetes
Option 1: If you have Type 1 diabetes, it is essential that your dietitian works closely alongside your insulin prescriber, since dietary and lifestyle changes may require adjustments to your insulin regimen. If this sounds like what you need and your prescriber is happy to collaborate, then do get in touch.
Option 2: If you don’t have access to structured Type 1 Diabetes education or you attended a course many moons ago and could do with a refresher, I can offer education to help you understand what is happening in your body and how diet, exercise, alcohol and the normal ups and downs of life can affect blood glucose levels. For your safety, the goal of the sessions would be to provide generic information rather than tailored advice.
Type 2 Diabetes
You do not need to go hungry or lose tens of kilos in order to improve your Type 2 Diabetes management. I am so sorry if that belief has drowned your motivation to make changes. Let’s work on keeping your tastebuds satisfied and those blood glucose levels in check. Yes, you may lose some weight too but, let’s face it, focussing on that as a primary goal has never worked for anyone in the long run.
Chronic Kidney Disease
I can offer you dietary support no matter what stage of disease you are at. Perhaps you’re at an early disease stage and would like advice on how to look after your kidneys and health in general? Or, is your kidney disease at a later stage and you are needing to make adjustments to your diet to keep you safe and well-nourished? Either way, I would be delighted to support you.
Is your body telling you that it’s time to focus on supporting it, rather than fighting it, through these changes? Let’s work together to smooth the way.
Vegan and Vegetarian Diets
The evidence shows that plant-based diets can be great for both our health and our planet. However, vegan diets and, to a lesser extent, vegetarian diets do require a little more focus to ensure they contain all the essential nutrients.
So, whether you’ve recently decided to opt for a vegan or vegetarian diet or you’ve been following one for some time but have reason to believe that something is missing, we can work on a solution that suits your food preferences and lifestyle together.
